今日面接した一人も、そんな感じで話が進んでいました。「もう、聞いてもワケワカラン」というのが本音ですが、そんな顔をしたら失礼ですから真面目には聞きます。
「ふーん。それで、そのホゲホゲ反応はどんな応用ができるんですか」
「それがすごいんですよ。ホゲホゲ反応を、ピロピロパラパラな物質に応用するとトントコチャンチャカな物質ができるんです。すごいですよね！」
「ふーん。それで、そのトントコチャンチャカな物質は、どんな応用が（以下略）」
というような応答が何度かあり、「結局、何の役にも立たないのか？」という疑念がほぼ真実であると認定されようとしたとき、彼が一言ぼそっといいました。
「まあ、要するに石油が作れるわけです」
「なんだって！」とその場にいた面接官は私も含めて同時に叫びました。
「要するに君の研究が成功したら石油を人工的に作れるのか？」
「いえ、石油を作るには私の研究だけでは不十分です。石油を作るには、さきほどもご説明したとおり、ホゲホゲ反応をピロピロパラパラな物質に応用して、トントコチャンチャカな物質を生成したり、それをペコポコパコピコな物質（中略）するような工程が必要です」
その受験者は、「何でそんな当たり前のことを聞くのか」と訝しげな眼でこちらを見ていました。でもね、あなたにとっては「当たり前なこと」が、普通の人にはわからないんですよ。普通の人に分かるようにするには、それが最終的にどう応用されて、その面接官の暮らしがどのように向上するのかを具体的に説明しなければなりません。

研究者にじぶんの研究をプレゼンする能力が無いという実例らしい．十分にわけのわからない話を聞かせてから，過度に単純化された話をすることで細かい質問や指摘を回避するメソッド，ということでよろしいか？
